Each of the 4 Levels is a 25-hour Course (18 in-class hours over 2-1/2 days, and 7 home study hours). Included in the home-study portion for each Level are PowerPoint presentations and science lectures which paid & registered students may download and view prior to each Level; the PP presentations focus on the specific muscles and their skeletal attachments offered in that Level, while the lectures cover a variety of required science topics. Once in the classroom you will learn the practical application of the
NeuroSoma® techniques to the 75 muscles and/or muscle groups most prone to hypertonic spasm and the 30 Patterns of Muscle Spasm.
Therefore, having read the materials and viewed the PowerPoint Presentations, all students come to class with an overview of the science supporting NeuroSoma® and a good anatomical understanding of the areas to be covered in that Level. NeuroSoma® Seminars presents for study a total of 75 specific muscles and/or muscle groups which are most susceptible to hypertonic spasm throughout the human body; as Levels progress, the muscles studied require increasing skill to treat and are considered in context with patterns of spasticity and appropriate protocols of treatment. Additionally
Starting in Level 1, instruction is also given in use of the BioPulser® precision percusser. Please Note that Well Being LLC cannot provide BioPulsers® to students other than for Level 1; however, as an integral part of this work, all Level 2, 3, and 4 students are required to provide their own BioPulsers®, available for purchase from Healthy Muscles LLC at www.biopulser.com for $425 plus shipping and tax. (Well Being LLC receives no part of the purchase price nor any remuneration whatsoever from the sale of BioPulsers®.)
Beginning Level 1 focuses on the arm, hand, fingers & thumb, and shoulder; the arm muscles are the easiest on which to learn the technique; additionally, knowing how to treat the arm allows students with hypertonic arms/hyper-extensive fingers (common among massage therapists, keyboardists, and many others) to work on their own problem arms and thereby relax and strengthen their fingers (spastic, contracted muscles are WEAK muscles!) .
Intermediate Level 2 focuses on the thigh, knee, leg, foot, buttock & hip, while Advanced Level 3 focuses on the upper & lower back, the chest & abdomen. Again, all classes run 18 in-class hours over a two and one-half day period, wherein students continue to practice the NeuroSoma® techniques. (25 Contact Hours NCBTMB each Level)
In Master Level 4, students learn to treat muscles of the face & neck, and the all-important suboccipitals. On the final morning of Level 4, students take written and practical exams. (NOTE: students are reponsible for their own review of all materials given prior to Level 4). Graduation diplomas are issued within the following week to those students successfully completing both exams, and the graduate may then legally* use the NeuroSoma® name, brochures, cards, and other resources available through the Well Being organization.
Expected Outcome. Level 1 students learn the basic stroke techniques and are able to apply them immediately to muscles given in that Level. Skills increase through each succeeding level in ability to assess and treat muscles throughout the body. Graduates of NeuroSoma® have eminently increased understanding of the function and malfunction of muscle tissue and the means to identify and treat individual muscles, both for specific spasm and in 30 Patterns of Spasm. Therapists feel a new level of professional confidence, and find their horizons have expanded exponentially. Non-professionals are able to help themselves, family, and friends recover from the innumerable and painful problems associated with everyday life.
Bring a portable chiropractic or massage table or massage chair, if possible. Table should have height range to at least your hips, and a face cradle. Bring a face cradle cover and one bottom sheet. IMPORTANT: our clients (in this case our fellow students) remain clothed at all times. Therefore, keep in mind you will be working for almost 3 days on your fingertips & it's much easier to work through soft, thin, movable materials. We suggest you wear cotton leotard leggings, soft cotton jersey pants, or thin cotton workout gear top and bottom; thin cotton T-shirts layered under warm sweaters also work; bring warm socks. Avoid clothing that is rough, thick, slippery, shiny, or very tight. Be thoughtful of your fellow students and choose your wardrobe carefully.
Please arrive with clean bodies, clean clothes, and wear a deoderant! Although usually not a necessary reminder, we work in very close proximity to each other and your cooperation is appreciated.
